Microbial food from light, carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas: Kinetic, stoichiometric and nutritional potential of three purple bacteria

چکیده

The urgency for a protein transition towards more sustainable solutions is one of the major societal challenges. Microbial alternative routes, in which land- and fossil-free production should be targeted. photohydrogenotrophic growth purple bacteria, builds on H2– CO2-economy, unexplored its microbial potential. three tested species (Rhodobacter capsulatus, Rhodobacter sphaeroides Rhodopseudomonas palustris) obtained promising rates (2.3–2.7 d−1 at 28°C) productivities (0.09–0.12 g L−1 d−1), rendering them likely faster productive than microalgae. achieved yields (2.6–2.9 g−1 H2) transcended ones aerobic hydrogen oxidizing bacteria. Furthermore, all provided full dietary matches humans their fatty acid content was dominated by vaccenic (82–86%). Given kinetic nutritional performance we recommend to consider capsulatus as high-potential source food.

1. The effect of H(2) tension, CO(2) tension, pH, time, light intensity, density of suspension, salt content of the medium, and certain spectral regions on the rate of photoassimilation of H(2) and CO(2) by Streptococcus varians has been studied. 2. The method of making light absorption measurements with thin suspensions of bacteria is described. 3. A light source, optical system, and filter fo...

Assimilation of carbon dioxide by hydrogen bacteria.

Autotrophic organisms can use carbon dioxide as their sole source of carbon. Within this group, the chemosynthetic bacteria secure energy for carbon dioxide assimilation by the oxidation of simple inorganic substances, although the photosynthetic organisms obtain this energy from light. The phylogenetic relationships of the chemosynthetic bacteria to the photosynthetic and to the heterotrophic ...

Preparation of Carbon Molecular Sieves from Pistachio Shell and Walnut Shell for Kinetic Separation of Carbon Monoxide, Hydrogen, and Methane

In this study, two Carbon Molecular Sieves using Pistachio shell (CMS P) and Walnut shell (CMS W) were prepared by a chemical vapor deposition method and used for pressure swing adsorption and separation of CO/H2 and CO/CH4. Adsorption isotherms of gases obtained for both CMS’s. The Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model was used for comparing pore volum...

Stoichiometric and kinetic studies of phenolic antioxidants from Andean purple corn and red-fleshed sweetpotato.

Stoichiometric and kinetic values of phenolics against DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) were determined for Andean purple corn (Zea mays L.) and red sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas). Both crops had higher antioxidant capacity and antiradical kinetics than blueberries and higher or similar anthocyanin and phenolic contents. The second-order rate constant (k(2)) was 1.56, 1.12, 0.57, and 0.26 (m...
